Forums, and why you shouldn't post on them!
I discovered an interesting thing last night. No matter what ideas or opinions you have, there will ALWAYS be someone who strongly opposes them, and then there will be people who see it as a 50% divide between you and the guy that disagrees with you and hence randomly choose a side based on little more than the flavor of the comment. So you will have effectively created a heated argument on both sides that well end up having little to nothing to do with your original concept. I don't really know why I bother since even if everyone magically agreed there would be no great outcome since no one actually cares about forums.
Which brings me to my next point. Forums are damn addictive. Once you've made a certain level of commitment to anything, you feel obliged to continue that level of commitment, and sometimes even increase it. This factor, combined with the fact that giving your ideas and opinions on things can be about as irresistible as your favorite food type (say pizza, chocolate etc), means that forums are a wonderful black hole where once you pass the event horizon of post counts, your forever trapped spiraling deeper and deeper.
Luckily, unlike the real black holes, you can simply convince your self (with some difficulty) that there is no real commitment, and that your ideas and opinions, how ever great they might be, are essentially pointless, having no real world effect. Once your are convinced of these two simple points you free your self from whatever desire initially trapped you inside the forums, much like suddenly releasing your self from the effects of gravity when stuck in an actual black hole.
And that is what I (hopefully) have done, after writing this I feel utterly convinced that I do not have to post, and even don't really want to.... at least not until next time I make the mistake to check to see if the Starcraft 2 forums have any new content updates, and then I'll be drawn in to that damn hole again.
Until next time :)
